REFORMA Southeast is pleased to announce the winners of the first Sara Howrey El día de los niños/El día de los libros Mini-Grant. Two mini-grants, in the amount of $100 each, will be awarded to the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library of Charlotte, North Carolina, and the Thomas B. Norton Public Library of Gulf Shores, Alabama.
The winning applications described wonderful celebrations and are very worthy of the financial support of our REFORMA Southeast chapter.

We are celebrating children and books of all cultures on April 24, 9:00 – 3:00 pm at our children’s library, ImaginOn: The Joe & Joan Martin Center 300 E. 7th St. Charlotte, NC 28202. Activities for the day include a workshop and autograph session with author/illustrator Keiko Kasza, hands on toy exhibit for Mexico, storytelling and crafts from around the world, African drumming, Indian dancing and the day will end with a puppet show called Salsa Cinderella. Every child attending the Día celebration will receive a free book and participants also have a chance to meet the
Super Why characters who help children learn that reading is power!”

“The Thomas B. Norton Public Library is excited to celebrate its first ever El día de los niños/El día de los libros Fiesta at Meyer Park on April 10, 2010! The event is a multicultural themed children’s literacy program with many activities for all ages.
Activities will range from culturally focused craft and game booths, free food and story time. In addition the event will serve to provide general information about the library, an opportunity for those attending to give feedback on the services the library provides, and a remote membership drive. The first 100 kids will receive a free bilingual book.”
Congratulations to the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library and the Thomas B. Norton Public Library, and to the lucky patrons of those libraries who will be celebrating such wonderful Día events!
We hope to be able to offer these Mini-Grants again next year, so stay tuned for future postings on this topic.
